And so our new segment, Athlete Profile Fridays, continues with the amazing Mr. Bill Parry.

  1. How long have you been involved with sledge hockey?
    1. I’m manager of the sledge hockey team, the BC Eagles, for about twenty years. I was the goalie for three or four years, defense for the rest of the years. In total, I was playing for about 17 years. I decided to become manager because the skate blades were not right, and I thought well if I’m not going to be playing, I might as well be fixing up the sleds and someone said why don’t you be the sledge hockey manager for the equipment? That’s about it.
  2. Have you played other competitive sports? If so which ones?
    1. I was a swimmer and competed in regionals to Paralympics, and to the first Pan American games.  I swam competitively for 25 years.
  3. Do you have any favorite sports team(s)? Favorite athlete?
    1. My favourite sports team is the Canucks and my favourite player is Henrik Sedin. He’s my favourite because he knows what he wants to do and he knows how to play the game.
  4. Do you have a favorite person at SportAbility?
    1. It’s between Terrie and Ross. They are good people and good workers and their good to me.
  5. Do you have a favorite travel moment?
    1. One time I was with Franny Cruise and we were coming back from a trip from Connecticut and the airlines overbooked. So I faked a few spasms from my CP, I was shaking all over. She said, “can we get on this flight because he’s having a seizure and needs his medication.” We got on the flight in twenty minutes.
  6. If you were trapped on a deserted island, which actor/musician would you want with you?
    1. I would want Farrah Fawcett because she’s cute.
  7. What do you like to do in your spare time?
    1. I work with Kiwanis in Maple Ridge. They have a concession trailer that has the convenience of a restaurant and I’m the pop person which means I give out the pop and the water.
  8. Do you have an embarrassing story to share?
    1. I was up on the starting blocks for a race in swimming. While all the rest of the swimmers took off (the gun went off), and I was standing up on the b locks waiting for everyone to get back on and I fell off the block into the water. I was supposed to be the perfect example, but instead I fell of the blocks.
  9. If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be and why?
    1. Very helpful in volunteering and in all the sports that SportAbility provides.
  10. What was the last movie you saw? Was it a good one?
    1. That was about twelve years ago. I think it was Twister and I liked it. Haven’t seen a movie since because I’ve been too busy with volunteering.
