Each week we will delve into the elements of either power hockey, power soccer, and boccia. Participants will explore movement skills such as throwing, rolling, kicking, wheeling, and passing as well as learning strategy and team work through fun games and activities.

What is Boccia?

Boccia the Paralympic version of Bocce. This game can be played individually, in pairs, or in teams of three. Boccia is a game of strategy and accuracy. Players score points by tossing or rolling their coloured ball closest to the target white ball called the jack. This game is typically played in a gymnasium or multi purpose area. It is very adaptable for people with a variety of disabilities. Equipment such as head pointers and ramps are available for those who may have difficulty rolling or throwing using their hands. The balls are made of leather material and can be soft or hard. Similarly, other objects such as beanbags or foam balls can be used in a recreational setting. This would help those who may have difficulty gripping the ball.

Opportunities to Participate in Boccia

Boccia in BC is open to all ages, abilities, and skill levels. Weekly programs are offered throughout the province. Moreover, each program can provide equipment support for those who need it. This includes participants who are new to the sport, those facing financial barriers, or for those who participate recreationally. Additional camps and tournaments are offered periodically throughout the season. This provides athletes seeking additional skill development with opportunities outside of their weekly programming. SportAbility runs these events together with our partners – check them out here.

Each season, a BC Provincial Team is selected. This team is made up of athletes seeking a competitive pathway. For more information on high performance opportunities, please contact us.

Can’t find a program near you? Then get in touch to let us know you want to participate! Our goal is to provide access to sport for all British Columbians with physical disabilities.

Interested in bringing boccia to students, clients, participants, children, or athletes? SportAbility offers opportunities to try a sport. Groups such as schools, clinics, and teams can try boccia. We also offer community events! Check out our Community Engagement page for more information.
