If you’ve been involved with SportAbility, then you must know boccia player Alison Kabush. Here’s what she had to say to our questions. Thanks for answering them Alison!

  1. How long have you been playing?  What made you decide to start playing?
    1. I played Boccia for 22 years and have been coaching for the last eight years. I started when I was nine years old and it was a worker at the treatment centre who started me out in Boccia.  It was a great experience for me because I was competitive and it was something that I was really good at.
  2. Do you have any favorite sports team(s)? Favorite athlete?
    1. My favorite two sports teams are the Vancouver Canucks and the Toronto Blue Jays and currently my favorite athlete is Luongo.  I also love love love watching curling.
  3. Do you have a favorite SportAbility moment?
    1. It’s hard to pick one moment.  I really enjoyed being on the Provincial team and going to Nationals as part of team BC.  I would have to say that the first time I beat Paul Gauthier at Nationals is a really big highlight.
  4. Do you have a favorite travel moment?
    1. I have to say that walking into the Opening Ceremonies of my first Paralympics in Sydney is on the top of the list.  It was so amazing that I couldn’t even drive my chair-I just stopped where I was.  Someone had to tell me to keep going.
  5. What do you like to do in your spare time?
    1. I like to take pictures, play games on my computer and I volunteer with kids twice a week.
  6. Do you have an embarrassing story to share?
    1. It’s more funny then embarrassing, but when I was in Beijing for the 2008 Paralympics, I went to visit the Great Wall.  There was a windy ramp to get up onto the Wall and my support person was going up the stairs and so I went up the ramp really fast.  What I didn’t realize was that there was a volunteer who thought they had to push me up the ramp and they ended up running behind because I didn’t see them.
  7. If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be and why?
    1. I would say competitive, loyal, and easy to approach. I am definitely competitive in almost everything that I do.  I want to do the best that I can do.  I always have people coming up to talk to me and when there is a new person in one of my activities I can easily get them involved.
  8. What was the last movie you saw? Was it a good one?
    1. The last movie that I saw was “The Heat” and it was so funny!
