What Is Power Soccer?
Power Soccer is a fast-paced, competitive sport for people with disabilities using power chairs. It is a modified version of able-bodied soccer, where special foot guards attached to the power chairs are used to hit an oversized soccer ball. The ball is maneuvered around the gym with the objective to score between two goal posts. Power soccer is played in teams with three players and a goalie on the floor for each team at a time. Participants need to be able to operate a power wheelchair in a safe manner to participate. Daily chairs or Strike Force chairs are welcome in all programs, camps, and tournaments.
Opportunities to Participate in Power Soccer
Participation in BC is open to all ages, abilities, and skill levels. Weekly programs are offered throughout the province. Each program can provide equipment support for those new to the sport, those facing financial barriers to participate in sport, or for those who participate recreationally. Equipment does not include a power wheelchair. For athletes seeking skill development opportunities outside of their weekly programming, development camps and tournaments are offered throughout the season by SportAbility and our program partners – check out our events here. A BC Provincial Team is selected each season for athletes seeking a competitive pathway. For more information on high performance opportunities, please contact us.
Can’t find a program near you? Then contact us to let us know you are interested in participating! Our goal is to provide access to sport for all British Columbians with physical disabilities.
