On Sunday, May 1st, 2016, 31 runners and wheelers came together as part of Team SportAbility to race in the BMO Vancouver Marathon. Our current total raised as of May 9th is $11,828 – and donations are still coming in! Please let your friends and family know that donations can still be made through our Chimp fundraising page or by giving cheques made out to SportAbility.
We asked one of our top individual fundraisers, Erin Sanford, to share her experience leading up to the marathon. Here’s what she had to say!
Half Marathons might not be in your future, but I will work everyday to get you where you want to be. As I ran this race, I was grateful for the ability to run…. you gave that to me. I was proud to do this with a sledge and wheelchair on my back.
I wanted to run this race as a charity runner for SportAbility to raise money for a cause that we believe in, and have had the luxury of benefiting from. This is a program that supports children who are physically, or otherwise challenged. A group that is easy to forget.
These are the children who cannot sign up for their local soccer league, or go public skating on a Sunday when Santa is on the ice. Luckily, we have SportAbility on our side.

Fundraised money goes directly towards covering costs such as: facility fees, equipment and repairs. The work this program does is not lost on my family.
Having sports, and more importantly, a team to call his own is so important to Lachlan.
Thank you for giving Lachlan a place to thrive, build confidence and shine.
